Chinese New Year, which is also called the Spring Festival（节目）, is the most important festival in China. The holiday begins on the first day of the new cycle（循环）of the moon, which occurs in late January or early February. The celebration will last 2 weeks.
In the week before the New Year, families clean their houses in order to sweep away all the bad lucks.
On the evening before the New Year, families gather for a big feast（盛宴）. They prepare all kinds of dishes and dumplings（饺子）. At midnight, they set off fireworks（焰火）.
On the first day of the New Year, people put on new clothes and then they take gifts to friends and relatives. The adults（成人）usually give new year bonus（压岁钱）to their children.
